On September 15, 2023, Omutsu Johokyoku (Adult Diaper Information Center Japan) welcomed physiotherapist Takeshi Matsumoto for an online seminar, “Rehabilitation-Informed Care without Overexertion: Practical Ideas for Bathing Assistance.”

As director of the Matsumoto Rehabilitation Research Institute, Matsumoto advocates rehabilitation-informed care that integrates rehabilitation perspectives into everyday life without overexertion. He also operates Shizuchan House, a small-scale multifunctional nursing and care facility.

For an audience of healthcare and care professionals, he shared practical ideas for bathing assistance that makes use of the person’s own abilities.

Bathing and toileting involve multiple daily activities, including movement, standing up, changing clothes and maintaining posture. Starting with bathing assistance, we learned perspectives also relevant to toileting support, while considering the burden on both those providing and receiving assistance.

Thank you to Mr. Matsumoto and everyone who attended.
