[Online Seminar] “Care with Heart, Not Force: Basics of Reducing Strain” with Ikuyo Tanigawa

On July 14, 2023, Omutsu Johokyoku (Adult Diaper Information Center Japan) welcomed physiotherapist Ikuyo Tanigawa for an online event, “Care with Heart, Not Force: Basics of Reducing Strain.”

Tanigawa belongs to Natural Heartful Care Network Fukuoka and works as a no-lift care coordinator.

Rather than caregivers physically lifting people through force, she discussed care that uses the assisted person’s own abilities and body movements, with assistive products where needed.

Toileting assistance and diaper changes can involve strain for both people, including when standing, transferring, adjusting posture and turning in bed. The seminar prompted us to reconsider body use and assistance methods and explore support that reduces strain.
