On April 11, 2025, we will welcome Harumi Hideshima of the nonprofit IBD Network for an online event on “The Need and Potential for Loose-Stool Pads.”

Loose-stool pads are designed to manage loose stool and fecal incontinence. However, they are rarely seen in ordinary drugstores, and their existence and characteristics are not widely known. Opportunities to discuss why these products are needed and how to select them are limited even in healthcare and care settings.

This event will explore loose-stool pads from three perspectives: a patient organization supporting people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a gastrointestinal surgeon, and a practitioner working with diapers.

IBD Network’s “Survey of Bowel Control and Quality of Life among People with Inflammatory Bowel Disease” received 284 responses in total, including 149 people with ulcerative colitis and 133 with Crohn’s disease.

Harumi Hideshima will discuss bowel-related concerns among people with IBD and their effects on daily life. Together, we will consider situations in which loose-stool pads may help and what is missing from current products and information.

Gastrointestinal surgeon Raita Yano will contribute a medical perspective, while Hiroshi Yagi will discuss diaper and pad types, construction and selection.

The event is part of a series leading up to O-MU-TSU WORLD EXPO, to be held at the Osaka-Kansai Expo on June 24, 2025.

Healthcare and care professionals who wish to learn about loose-stool pads, and anyone interested in the daily challenges faced by people with IBD, are welcome. Participants may remain anonymous and keep their cameras off.
