On March 6, 2025, nonprofit WheeLog!’s official website reported on advocacy requesting care hoists in accessible toilets at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

Even when an adult changing bed is provided away from home, some people cannot transfer onto it independently. Supporting diaper changes and toileting for people with severe disabilities therefore requires access to care hoists as well as beds.

Drawing on its observations of accessibility at the Dubai Expo, WheeLog! approached those involved to explain that the Osaka-Kansai Expo also needed accessible toilets equipped with hoists.

A request was submitted to Shinji Takeuchi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, jointly by Kei Hirabayashi, Representative Director of the Japan Welfare and Medical Fashion Association; Satoshi Sato, Secretary General of DPI-Japan; and Yuriko Oda, Representative Director of WheeLog!.

Our representative, Hiroshi Yagi, participated in this initiative as the association’s then Deputy Representative Director. Considering the environments adult diaper users need when going out, he worked with Yuriko Oda and other WheeLog! members in repeated discussions about the need for access to care hoists.

Considering environments where diaper users can go out with confidence, as well as selecting diapers themselves, is an important part of our work.
