Invited to the 38th Higashi-Osaka Project’s “Let’s Talk About Things We Usually Avoid” gathering, Hiroshi Yagi spoke on “Diapers as Assistive Equipment for Independence.”

The gathering is a community exchange event where healthcare and welfare professionals and local residents discuss topics that can be difficult to raise, reflecting on life and society ahead. This time, the theme was diapers.

The lecture covered basics such as adult diaper types and selection, product functions and features, and perspectives on choosing products according to physical condition and living environment.

It also shared the view that diapers are not simply a response to incontinence but assistive equipment that supports independence, outings and social participation. Appropriate use can broaden life’s choices, while diapers unsuited to a person’s physical function or circumstances may restrict activity.

The lecture also addressed the shortage of places to change diapers away from home and improvements such as multifunctional toilets and adult changing tables. It emphasized looking beyond product selection and use to daily life and the environment for going out.

We sincerely thank the Higashi-Osaka Project for the invitation and everyone who participated.
