On 21 July 2023, Omutsu Johokyoku (Adult Diaper Information Center Japan) welcomed Haruki Eto (江藤遥輝) of Magic Shields Inc. for an online seminar, “Toward a Society Where People Can Keep Going to the Toilet Even with a Risk of Falling: About coroyawa, Which Absorbs Fall Impacts.”

Drawing on his knowledge as a physical therapist, Eto works at Magic Shields on products aimed at reducing fracture risk from falls.

The featured product, coroyawa (ころやわ), is flooring and matting designed to maintain ease of everyday walking while absorbing impact in a fall. The seminar covered its development background, structure and use in healthcare and care settings.

Reaching the toilet involves several movements, including standing up, walking and turning. Fear of falling can affect opportunities to go to the toilet and choices about activity. We learned not only about preventing falls, but also about creating environments that reduce impact if a fall occurs.

Thank you to Eto and everyone who participated.
