On 8 December 2024, Kei Hirabayashi and Hiroshi Yagi served as lecturers at the December 2024 Workshop of the certified NPO Aichi Continence Care Study Group, held at Nagoya University School of Medicine.

The workshop’s theme was:
“We Want to Discuss the Future Diaper Collection at the Expo with You!”

Held in a hybrid format at the venue and via Zoom, it invited participants to consider O-MU-TSU WORLD EXPO, planned for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, and the future of diapers.

The lecturers and workshop facilitators were Kei Hirabayashi, Representative Director, and Hiroshi Yagi, Deputy Representative Director, of the Japan Welfare and Medical Fashion Association.

Representative Director, Japan Welfare and Medical Fashion Association

He introduced initiatives connecting welfare and fashion, including fashion activities for wheelchair users and fashion shows in Paris.

Deputy Representative Director, Japan Welfare and Medical Fashion Association
Representative, OMUTSU Delivery
Administrator, Omutsu Johokyoku (Adult Diaper Information Center Japan)
Physical therapist

He discussed the path from working as a neighborhood adult diaper retailer to planning O-MU-TSU WORLD EXPO.

Dr. Yoko Yoshikawa, Komaki City Hospital

Dr. Yoko Yoshikawa of the Aichi Continence Care Study Group and Komaki City Hospital facilitated the workshop as a whole.

The main activities were:

  • The journey from a neighborhood diaper shop to Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan
  • The journey from a Paris fashion show to Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan
  • A diaper design activity for participants
  • Exchanging ideas ahead of the Expo

Plans are underway for O-MU-TSU WORLD EXPO to present a diaper collection on one of the world’s largest scales at EXPO Hall at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

With people working to improve continence care, we considered ideal diapers and future designs, discussing what those involved in continence care across Japan could share with the world together.

Participants also developed diaper designs, making this a participatory workshop that brought together experience and perspectives from different care settings.

It was a valuable opportunity to consider future diapers from a broad range of perspectives, including not only users’ physical conditions and daily lives, but also fashion, design, outings and social participation.

Thank you to everyone who attended in person or online, and to the Aichi Continence Care Study Group for providing this opportunity.
